Mr. Robert A. “Bob” Kersteen, President, Friends of Weedon Island, Inc.

Telephone (727) 347-0083 or email NITTANYRAK@AOL.COM

On behalf of the Friends of Weedon Island, Inc., I would like to welcome you to our website. We hope that you find our site easy to navigate and full of discovery about Pinellas County’s “Place to Remember.” The Pinellas County Department of Environmental Management’s Environmental Lands Division manages the Preserve. Weedon Island Preserve protects more than 3,700 acres of natural ecosystems and is located at 1800 Weedon Island Drive N.E. in St. Petersburg, FL. The Preserve is open to the public seven days a week and offers many outdoor activities including hiking, paddling, and fishing. In the Preserve, the Cultural and Natural History Center welcome visitors from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Center features the new, permanent exhibit, Connecting People and Place, which is an art-inspired, hands-on educational approach to the area’s history, ecology and people. The Center also holds a wide range of programs and events for people of all ages.

To register for these programs, please call (727) 453-6500. For more information about Weedon Island Preserve and Pinellas County’s Environmental Lands Division, call (727) 453-6900 or visit their website as found on our "Links" page.

This website was developed as a Girl Scout Gold Award Project by Abby King, a Senior Girl Scout in Troop 44. Abby has been a member of the Friends of Weedon Island for many years.

A special thank you to Mrs. Jane Baker and Dr. Bruce Rinker for their contribution and invaluable input during the construction of the website.
